With it's aerodynamic look and sleek interface the new Galaxy Nexus is simply impossible to put down, and because our world is so used to being "connected", society doesn't accept what is true: EMR is causing us harm. Picture from: http://bit.ly/Abr91L |
Cellphones were actually never actually tested for safety, and were only introduced to our society/world because of a loophole in in their development process. The thing is, could you imagine a world without cellphones? They provide so much... but it's actually not that hard. Nowadays, there are many technologies that could be in the making that we don't necessarily need, yet when people are exposed, they become so used to a product that it becomes hard to live without it. This is exactly what is happening or shall I say, has already happened, with cellular phones, and the main reason people aren't convinced is because they just don't want to believe it.
It's really hard to imagine, but around 40 years ago, when no one had a cellphone, or they were just top secret information owned by the military, no one even dreamed of even owning such a device, just like it is hard to imagine today what the future will hold. Will technology be introduced that is even more unsafe? I believe that the greater an advantage of a technology, the greater disadvantage it will bring.
The big question is, why was such technology, and social media created. Was it by some genius who looked at our world as being more fast and connected, and always the most technologically advanced? Or was this future set for us by companies whose sole purpose is to maximize profit, and to achieve this goal however way they can? Whichever way, it is bringing us humans a great disadvantage, which we will regret touching after we have used it for a while and begin to feel it's disadvantages. The best thing you can do right now is to protect yourself. Get more educated. The more action you take, the more it will help your health.
The problem is evident, just how exactly do we spread the EMR message? Picture from: http://bit.ly/7140M |
I ask, what's your opinion? Do you think companies are setting us up for maximizing their profit, and one disadvantage just happens to be a lot of unnecessary and preventable exposure to EMR? Or was EMR accidentally stumbled upon and used to drive our already growing and expanding world forward? I find it quite sad that with every technological benefit there seems to be a con, since I look towards a world where everything is for the better. Could you imagine... every item having no consequence or disadvantage?
Overall, our world knows that EMR is very dangerous; however, we need to take this to the next level and accept this fact. People can protect themselves, using special cases, or avoiding the exposure (maybe not completely, but three quarters of the time when you are urged to pick up and use your phone. So what do you think? Do you feel connected to your phone and urged to pick up or use it? Do you believe that EMR is causing the world harm? Please comment with opinions and thoughts, I appreciate it. Tune in for more posts and make sure to follow me on Twitter (@em_radiation). Thanks for reading!

Interesting post, I probably can feel radiation in my life. Also remember to put in your citing for your pictures :P!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading and thanks for the reminder! Do you feel as though you need to always be connected to the outside world? I wonder if people felt that way when we didn't have such technology to do so around (such as when the only "media" was the newspaper).
ReplyDeletei do agree that tis could be causing us harm. i know what it is- it's like when you're on the phone too long and you start to feel heat radiating off the phone. i think i heard something in the news about how when you talk on a cell phone, you should keep it away from your ear to minimize radiation. then again....i could be mistaken.
ReplyDeleteAll companies set up to maximize profit. If they're publicly traded like most telecomm companies it's actually their duty to maximize profit. But now we're getting into an economic discussion rather than a discussion about the harmful effects of cell phones.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of social media and access to these Web 3.0 technologies on a cell phone, wouldn't that be an evolution in the positive direction? It's taking the cell phone away from my head and putting it in my hand. That distance of even 1m will have a significant impact on the amount of radiation my brain is exposed to. If we are to assume that cell phones are here to stay for the foreseeable future then wouldn't we want their manufacturers to be coming up with more and more ways to use them without having to stick it by our head?
I completely agree. If these cellphone companies are publicly traded then they are set up to maximize profit, and do so however way they can, even if this process involves people getting ill from the EMR they are exposed to; this is just something the cellphone companies accept (and deny in public)in order to make money. My topic and blog involves all aspects of EMR, it's marketing, the harmful effects, and so on and so forth, one must look at all the facets of the EMR "deal" before they set their opinion in stone. I for one, was quite quick to believe that this is true (rather early), but now that studies have proven it various times, we know it's real.
ReplyDeleteWhat I state here in my post is true; social media is in fact a great evolution in the positive direction, it brings our world one step forward, and provides us the opportunity to be connected and always there, unlike when we did not have these technologies. As to this, people now would much rather make the choice to be connected than not, so my rather small presence here is trying to show people the light at the end of the tunnel, show people that even with these advantages, we need to think towards the future. How will my health stand when I am older? As much as people don't appreciate looking towards the future and want to "enjoy every day" while it lasts, we need to maintain this point of view for the future generations to come.
I see you clearly posses the opinion that companies are maximizing their profit by exposing us to EMR, and while EMR its self isn't directly addicting, it's very much the content accessible through it that is. Much like described in my post, there's two ways of looking at it: either companies set us up to gain money, or EMR is just an accidental side effect of what is a great advancement in technological history.
If we do assume that cellphones are here to stay, then yes, I would assume that cellphone companies would be coming up with great alternatives-- but only for the sole purpose of maximizing their profit. Thanks for reading, check out some of my newer posts for more.
Well. I wouldn't say that companies are maximizing their profit by exposing us to EMR. They're maximizing profit by creating a product that is more versatile and therefore more utilized that before. A side-effect of this is increased exposure to EMR as a result of increased use of the device; however, there's a distinction between profiting from exposure to EMR and profiting from the functionality of a product. I'm sure that all of the telecom companies would jump ship if they could find a way to make more money by producing a product that does not use radio frequencies to communicate.
DeleteI also think that it was a good post, try every time you ask a question just answer a little/little more to your own question.
ReplyDeleteI desired to thank you for this excellent read!! I am definitely experiencing every little bit of it and I have you saved to examine out new things you publish.
